Vice-Chancellor and Foreign Minister Dr. Michael Spindelegger opened the new premises of the Austrian Embassy in Slovakia today in the presence of the Slovak Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak and numerous guests from Slovakia.
“Our new, modern Embassy reflects the modern and dynamic character of Austria: Clear lines, transparency and openness for our contact to the people have replaced the outdated structures”, Spindelegger said in Bratislava. The Embassy’s move from a historic building into a modern office apartment also helps to save space, “which will have an impact on the costs” according to Spindelegger.
The Foreign Minister referred to the strong economic relations with Slovakia: “Austria is the second largest investor in Slovakia. Some 2000 Austrian companies entertain subsidiaries or affiliates here which in turn means 40,000 jobs in Slovakia.”
Asked about the necessity of Austrian embassies in EU member states, the Foreign Minister underlined the importance of a tight network of representations within the EU: “Our Austrian embassies in the EU have always been indispensable and will continue to be so in the future: they are essential for informing our EU partners about our positions, and they are indispensable for the formation of alliances so that we can defend matters of importance to us in the best possible manner in Brussels.”Source: http://www.bmeia.gv.at/en/foreign-ministry/news/press-releases/2012/ein-modernes-profil-oesterreichs-in-der-slowakei.html
